The second week of my work trip was in Malaysia. We spent the weekend and the first 3 weekdays in Kuala Lumpur and the last 2 days in Penang. KL surprised me with its modern vibes. Getting around was a breeze with Uber, which was way cheaper and more convenient than taxis. On the first day we managed to see a lot. We started with Batu caves, which is a holy Hindu place.
Next we uber-ed to KL Tower and the neighboring Eco Park.
On our way to Sri Mahamariamman Hindu Temple we were caught in a torrential rain. We waited under cover for about half an hour for the rain to stop, but then we gave up and walked the last 5 minutes to the temple.
We ended the day at the night market at Jalan Alor, which according to one of our Uber drivers, is for tourists only. That may be true, but the wings were pretty good.
The next day included more drinking and happy hours than sight seeing, which was fine with me because I was pretty tired and sore from the day before 🙂 Before spending a significant amount of time in the various bars at St. Regis hotel, we managed to see Petronas Towers and the Central Market. We bought tickets ahead of time for a tour of the Petronas Towers.
We stopped at the Central Market for some photo ops and a skin-eating fish “massage” 🙂
E came back to US on Monday while I had another week ahead and another flight to Penang before wrapping up this trip. Penang is next!
