In November 2020, we went to Joshua Tree National Park for a couple of days and stayed overnight at an Airbnb in Twentynine Palms. The house was newly renovated but the quality of the renovation was poor. Then E said “I bet we can do it better!” And so it started. After a period of looking at houses (in need of a facelift) for sale, nothing remotely interesting came up, so the idea of building from scratch started to materialize, which sounded crazy at the time. Who does that? That sounded like a monumental task, but after finding the right lot of land, and dealing with all the paperwork and permits, the construction began in December 2021.
Mistakes were made, lessons were learned and budgets were blown but in March 2023, the house was DONE! Only five-ish minutes away from the North Entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park, which is less crowded and closer to the popular spots in the park.
You can check it out and book it on Airbnb, Booking.com, and VRBO.
