This is a small park that used to be known as Congaree Swamp National Monument until 2003. The park did not get too many visitors when it was a national monument, so it was decided to drop the word “swamp” from the name and make it a park. Attendance improved. 🙂
There are only a few trails and the landscape is dominated by overflowing water from the nearby Congaree River, so it’s perfect for kayaking (NPS offers limited tours). It’s beautiful and pleasant weather in spring. They say the most beautiful time to visit is during fall. Half a day is more than enough for this park.
